The form of the museum is symbolic. It communicates the forming of the continent, how it arose through wind, rivers and glaciers. It tells the story of human beings, how men and women appear who develop in harmony with the forces of nature. The building is heated and cooled by the river, with the help of solar energy—altogether a contribution towards an ecological ideal.

The design has to meet very different, sometimes conflicting demands. An intensive care unit looks after the adequate exhibition of sensitive objects, the national treasures are generally shown in a festive way and a so-called temple space grants a glimpse into the sacred history of the country.

All of the innovative ideas arose in interdisciplinary visioning meetings, which ultimately enabled the integration of the various themes and spheres without loosing sight of the whole.
