The Garkau farm is situated north of Lübeck at Lake Pönitzer. Only the cattle shed and barn were built according to the original design.

The cattle shed illustrates most clearly Häring’s intent of developing a building out of its function. The shed was to make room for 42 cows and one breeding bull. The animals were placed around a pear shaped central space from where they were being fed. To this end the middle section of the ceiling slopes down slightly so the hay could be pushed down easily. The ceiling rises again towards the external wall which has built-in slits along the whole width of the building: these ensure a natural thermal ventilation.

As far as the barn is concerned, its particular feature is the roof construction. It is carried by a system of individual timber beams bolted together in a rhomboid-shaped arrangement.
